The Skyline Trail is a popular 7.5-mile hiking route that covers the length of the Blue Hills Reservation. Unfortunately, the hiking experience is interrupted by vehicle traffic at the trail’s intersection with Route 28. This conflict point is of particular concern due to its location near the crest of a hill and along a curve, which makes it difficult for people driving and people hiking to see one another. MPO staff studied conditions for trail users where the Skyline Trail crosses Route 28. The findings from the analysis are reported in this memorandum. This study concludes by identifying improvements that would facilitate a safer and more comfortable Route 28 crossing for people traveling along the Skyline Trail.
