The Pedestrian Report Card Assessment (PRCA) tool allows users to rate the quality of the pedestrian environment along route segments and at intersections throughout the Boston region’s network of roadways, sidewalks, and shared-use paths. The PRCA was developed in 2017 to support the Boston Region Metropolitan Planning Organization’s (MPO) objectives of increasing the number of pedestrian trips and improving the safety of pedestrians throughout the Boston region. The tool aims to improve safety and comfort for people walking because pedestrian trips are influenced by the perception of these factors. To accomplish these goals, the PRCA provides a methodology for assessing conditions for pedestrians along route segments and at intersections throughout the Boston region’s pedestrian network.
In 2019, MPO staff updated the PRCA tool, a process that included creating a new Non-Signalized Intersection PRCA. MPO staff also created the PRCA Interactive Database, which provides roadway segment and intersection-level information for every location graded using the PRCA in the Boston region. This memo documents the 2019 updates to the PRCA tool and the creation of the interactive database.
