The Chair stated the following:

Treasury Report

Chairman White stated he has had no luck at opening up an account for the (-$1280-) donation to AACT. He also noted that making a deposit of that amount may affect his Social Security income benefits. The check and letter will be returned to Ms. Woodman with a request to have her reissue it in a cashier’s check.

MBTA’s Rider Oversight Committee (ROC)

Lisa Weber, AACT Board of Directors and representative to the ROC discussed the activities of the committee.

Ms. Weber explained that neither she nor Mr. Perrault were unable to attend the ROC’s May meeting. She did attend the May 13 Vehicle Accessibility Advisory Committee meeting with Chris Hart. She noted that the committee is just starting and that she is looking forward to working with the committee. She is looking forward to the next meeting.

She asked for questions or comments.

Chairman White noted that he is pleased that the committee is working in the spirit of the memorandum of understanding. He noted that it is very important for the committee to hear about the needs of the disability community.

Regional Transportation Advisory Council (RTAC)

Mary Ann Murray, AACT’s representative to RTAC, reported that they too are experiencing a lack of attendance at meetings. She is concerned that people may not be aware that the meetings are happening. She feels there needs to be a better way to get the word out about meetings.

She asked for questions or comments.

Chairman White noted that people will find their way to meetings when there is a crisis or something that they want to take a stand about, such as when the MBTA increased the fares on THE RIDE.

Open Discussion

Lisa W. would like to see more hand straps added to vehicles for people who are petite or small in stature. Chairman White stated that he has observed on occasion buses that are missing hands straps or ones that are damaged. He also noted that bus operators will now be using new circle check cards, which now include 10 items that are ADA related.

Hang L. asked if there were any reports of persons with disabilities injured in the most recent Amtrak crash. Chairman White offered to research whether Amtrak has an evacuation plan to rescue persons with disabilities.

New Business

Chairman White discussed with the board of directors their recommendations on canceling the July 22nd meeting and celebrating the ADA 25th anniversary with the others on the Boston Common and promoting AACT to others.
